ZIZABONA power project advances
Construction on the US$59 million ZIZABONA power project has advanced and is scheduled for completion in 2019. The project, which is currently undergoing a feasibility study, is expected to meet the growing demand for electricity in the region.
As implied in its name, the project would facilitate power trade across Zimbabwe, Zambia, Botswana and Namibia, ease congestion on the existing north-south transmission corridor from South Africa to Zimbabwe and add a 400 kV western corridor to the Southern African Power Pool.
The power project is critical to stimulate investment in the power-stressed Southern African region, to strengthen security of supply and to meet the growing demand for electricity in the region.
