Maureen Kassuga

ERA Relocation Consultant Maureen Kassuga, started at the Tanzanian branch in 2016 and she believes there has never been a better time than now for expats to relocate to Tanzania. Maureen is very excited about the future of this East African country and she cannot wait to introduce it to the rest of the world.

As a predominantly agricultural nation, Tanzania’s economy has grown steadily over the past decade, making it the second largest economy in East Africa. Maureen urges expats to do their homework on Tanzania and not to believe everything they see on television.
“Many expats come to Tanzania with preconceived ideas, many of which are very untrue. Most of the expats I meet are pleasantly surprised when they visit the country. Sure, we’re a developing country but we have so much to offer visitors and relocating expats.”
Maureen has seen a significant change in the industry over the past couple of months. “Prices of houses and apartments have decreased substantially, which has led to more affordable housing and resulted in more foreigners moving to Tanzania.”
Maureen warns aspiring relocation consultants to always keep up to date with the latest news and new laws impacting the industry. The market is constantly changing and so are the laws concerning rental properties. It’s very important to stay updated with these changes, as landlords will always try to get gain the upper hand on tenants. As relocation consultants, it’s our job to ensure we negotiate the best possible price for our clients.
Maureen believes that the number one prerequisite for her job is to be a people’s person. “You need to realise that you’re dealing with different people from various backgrounds. These people are leaving the safely of their homes for a whole new country and this can sometimes be a frightening transition.”
“My main goal is to gain the trust of my clients and to ensure they’re comfortable. I love giving them tips on how to move around Dar es Salaam. Tanzania offers so much and I love to show people the beauty of this wonderful country,” adds Maureen.
