A rise in private schools

There has been a rise in small private colleges in Zimbabwe for both primary and high schools. These colleges are a bridge between government schools and the traditional older private schools in terms of school fees and enrolment numbers.

In 2017, the Ministry of Education closed down over 57 bogus colleges in Zimbabwe. A lengthy vetting and accreditation process followed which all of the recent sprout of private colleges have to undergo.

The education system in Zimbabwe encompasses 13 years of primary and secondary school and runs from January to December. Zimbabwe has the highest adult literacy rate in Africa which is estimated at 92% due to the government’s investments in the education sector.
