Africa’s largest mosque nears completion
The Jemma Al Djazair mosque, which is currently under construction in Algiers, is expected to be completed by the end of 2018. The first stone of this major project was laid by President Abdelaziz Bouteflika on 31 October 2011. Construction of this project was managed by a Chinese company, China State Construction Engineering Corporation (CSCEC).
The mosque will have the tallest minaret, which will also serve as a museum consisting of 37 floors. This will be the largest mosque in Africa and the third largest mosque in the world after the Great Mosque of Mecca and Al-Masjid an-Nabawi of Medina in Saudi Arabia.
